Live the Life You Want!
Maternity leave is often the impetus for change. As Katrina Andrew of Melbourne, Victoria, pondered her future, she envisaged a life where income fit around family — not vice versa. So it was fitting that the Arbonne opportunity arrived during a play date.
After 15 years in finance and executive recruitment, the idea of 10-hour working days, countless daily emails and nonstop phone calls had lost its appeal. The corporate world had been fun and lucrative — it even led me to my husband. Now I had a toddler and 10-month-old twins. My values had shifted. It was time for something different. I was on maternity leave and wanted to go back to doing something that gave me the opportunity to create a generous income, but it had to fit around my family, not the other way around.
I liked the idea of having my own business. My husband, Jason, and I had tried a couple of ventures, although unfortunately they didn’t work. It was an expensive lesson that put us on the financial edge, and I wasn’t sure I wanted to take that risk again.
It was at this time that I arranged a play date for my son Maximus that was to change the course of my life. While Maxi and his crèche buddy were having their fun, Darcy’s mum, Angela Weston, and I started talking make-up, as I’d run out of my tinted-moisturizer. Ange happened to have her make-up kit in the car and won me over immediately.
The product won me over immediately: so much so that I followed up our play date with an Arbonne Opportunity meeting. I was immensely energised by the possibilities, the support and the potential to unleash my entrepreneurial spirit. The idea of having my own business, but without all the headaches that go with it — I had not felt this excited in a long time.
This business enables us not only to share an amazing range of products, but also a business opportunity with incredible training, resources, webinars, competitions, promotions, coaching calls and inspirational speakers. It is an invaluable network of support. We earn incentives based on our sales to end consumers, which is great because it is about the number of people’s lives we are transforming. I always thought that was a big statement, but it’s true. We are transformers.
I leapt in feet first and was committed to attaining Regional Vice President, which I needed to do to match my former corporate income. Despite my enthusiasm, those early days were nerve-wracking. I am so thankful to those first supporters who unleashed my L-plated presentations — with no experience in skincare or make-up — on their friends. But my family and friends know I am driven and love helping people, and they saw that this business, centered on health and wellness and Arbonne’s “pure, safe, beneficial” philosophy, was a perfect fit with my values.
Sure, there are times you need to push through fear barriers or ward off tricky situations. We had two stints at sleep school with the twins, and with an average of four hours sleep a night, I actually don’t remember a lot of the details of my first year in the business!
Being committed and consistent are important principles for me. It would’ve been easy to say, “I’m too tired. I can’t be bothered making that call, dropping off that sample or attending training.” But I believe these challenges are thrown at us as tests. How much do we really want what we’re shooting for and what are we prepared to do? I always held onto a burning desire to give my family the best life possible. I just did little things every day to move forward... and of course I had the support of my Arbonne friends assisting me all the way.
Doing those little things led me to Regional Vice President — and the keys to a new Mercedes-Benz — within 18 months. My sales efforts have been rewarded with travel and development opportunities including the electrifying annual Global Conference in Las Vegas, where I celebrated Arbonne with 14,000 other Consultants. But more importantly, I am here for my kids when they need me. Nothing made me happier than being able to walk my eldest son to school on his first day and be there every day since. I’ve experienced many precious moments I would’ve missed in corporate life.
I’ve received so much joy watching the success of my team members. I love having every generation represented, seeing them grow, lead their own teams and achieve things they never would have dreamed themselves capable of. At the end of the day, Arbonne is the vehicle that enables me to be what I want to be — truly, authentically me.
I am eternally grateful to the people who have supported and inspired my dream. A big shout out to my wonderful friends, family and clients: You got me up and running and have been tremendously encouraging. To my Arbonne sister-lines and to the amazing crew at Arbonne Head Office: Thank you for your positive contribution to my life and my business. I’m especially grateful to my super-supportive husband Jason, my big-hearted sponsor/friend/mentor Angela Weston, my courageous uplines Debbie Loughnane and Christy Drieling, my incredible “Go-Getting” team who inspire and teach me daily, and of course, my children Maximus, Austin and Celeste Andrew. They were my ultimate inspiration for doing this business and were all born on the 11th, which is why the numberplate on my Mercedes reads 11 MACA; together we choose to live the life we want to live!
