Mindy Prete of Simi Valley, California, was a dental hygienist with big dreams. When a friend introduced her to Arbonne, she took a leap of faith and embarked on a new chapter of her life. One that led her to accomplish her dreams, and continue to dream even bigger.
Three-and-a-half years ago my life completely changed. One conversation and one blind leap of faith changed the direction of my life forever. I decided to grab a pen and rewrite my own story, after I realized that working long hours away from my family as a dental hygienist was no longer my idea of success.
My Arbonne business gave me my life back and I know the best is still unwritten. If anyone had told me that in just a few years into my business, I could reach the top of this company, I would have never believed it. I thought that becoming a National Vice President was something attainable only for the elite. I never saw this as a possibility for myself, but I am proof that an introverted and shy girl can do this (one whose greatest fear was public speaking) — if I can, anyone can!
My good friend, ENVP Tracy Schuetz, introduced me to Arbonne through the nutrition line. She was an answer to my prayers and the timing was perfect. Little did she know I was looking for a way to stay home with my children and was having nightmares about leaving them to go back to work.
I completed Arbonne’s 30 Day Healthy Living and Beyond Program and had awesome results. I couldn’t help but recommend these products to everyone I knew. I wanted my friends and family to all feel as great as I did. I was selling the products to my friends and family anyway, so I thought, “What if I try?”
Honestly though, I never took this type of home business seriously. I didn’t think there was good money to be made, and I almost let my ego get in the way. I told myself things like: “I can’t talk in front of groups of people, I don’t want to bug my friends, I have no spare time, I am not a sales person and I didn’t go to USC for this!” I realized that was all unnecessary chatter, so I decided to take a leap of faith. That night, it wasn’t our amazing products that kept me awake, but it was our incomparable business model. I knew that I could build my own global business, helping many people along the way and that, most importantly, I could work my business around my life instead of working my life around my job. I realized that I could either go back to work or I could be my own boss.
One year later my life looked a little different when I was able to promote to RVP and earn more than my previous income. At that moment, my plan B happily became my plan A. I was able to take the pressure off of my husband, and I had even earned the incentive trip to the Bahamas. I saw my dreams coming true right before my eyes: getting to stay home with my kids, being a mom and wife as my priority, and working my Arbonne business into the nooks and crannies of my day. I had the very best of everything!
I really would have been completely happy with that level for life, but my team kept growing. It's like popcorn — once you turn up the heat, it just keeps popping. About one year later I promoted out my first RVP Tracy Dyer. The day I got to hand the Mercedes-Benz keys to her was one of the best days of my life. My team now has seventeen VPs and Tracy is my first NVP!
Last November, I finally gave away my dental scrubs. It was the best feeling ever and I’m not sure what took me so long. That chapter in my life is closed forever, because when you love what you do, you will never “work” another day in your life. That’s an amazing feeling, and my goal is to help everyone feel this way, too.
Even more unbelievable — this month I was able to pay off my home and now my family is debt free. At my age, I never dreamed this would be possible. Even more incredible than my own needs being met is that I get to pay this gift forward to anyone willing to dream bigger.
I have had a few major shifts in my business that I’d love to share. I originally started this business with some personal goals, and then it quickly shifted to helping my team with their goals and dreams. They fuel me to be the best leader for those who need me, and some Consultants on my team purely do this business to give back to charity in ways they never could before. I love that Arbonne can be a vehicle for anyone and that I get to be that “hope-giver” along the way.
The third major shift really just happened over this last year. I am now able to have an additional bigger driver, or Why, than I had originally ever imagined possible, because when your needs are met, it allows you to do even more with your life.
Have you ever had that little whisper in your ear to do more? Maybe something so huge that you never imagined you could actually accomplish it on your own? Maybe it’s so big you have never shared it with anyone out of embarrassment of actually accomplishing it, but you can’t get it out of your mind? I believe that the whisper is there for us to do something about it. I believe God created us all to do great things and all we have to do is really just listen.
The first month that I decided to listen to that whisper for the first time in my life, my team went into qualification for National Vice President and in the process I was able to raise funds for a charity close to my heart. I believe when we get uncomfortable, that’s where the magic happens. Going into NVP qualification that month was more than just a coincidence, if you ask me. I believe that when you bless others, you in turn will also be blessed. I dare you to be brave and “listen” to your whisper and see what happens.
Now, what I fall in love with more and more everyday is the true gift of Arbonne. Arbonne has been a journey of personal growth and discovery. I am not the person I was. Arbonne taught me how to be the best version of myself, and how to break the limitations in my mind to redefine what's possible.
Sometimes in life I felt lost and stuck but I understand now, I was exactly where I was meant to be. I realized one small shift could change the course of my life forever. I welcomed it and opened my mind and heart to it. I knew that I could not fail if I didn’t give up, and as long as I was the constant in my business, it would thrive. I learned to love the challenges and setbacks, love the obstacles and the heartaches. They prepared me to be the best leader possible and were stepping stones, leading me closer and closer to success. I stopped being afraid of what could go wrong and started focusing on what could go right.
If I were to wait until I was ready to tackle this business, I’d be waiting for the rest of my life, so don’t wait! I have a long way to go, but I’m thankful for how far I’ve come. I thank God everyday, and I know that if I can succeed, anyone can. I can promise you that the view from the top is absolutely breathtaking and the mountain is so worth the climb. I feel a huge sense of responsibility to help everyone get to the top too. Stay the course, the only difference between an NVP and a Consultant is that an NVP is a Consultant who never gave up.
I did not become a Nation on my own. This unbelievable accomplishment is a result of an amazing team of leaders all coming together to achieve their goals. I love watching people happy and succeeding. Who do I thank first?
